Oklahoma City was founded on April 22, 1889. An area known as the “unassigned lands” was opened for in an event known as “The Land Run”. Over 10,000 homesteaders settled the area. The town grew quickly and the population doubled between 1890 and 1900.
Oklahoma was admitted to the Union in 1907, Soon after, the capital was moved from Guthrie to Oklahoma City.
